About the Basic Course
The Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society’s Basic Course allows students to obtain the practical knowledge necessary to use musculoskeletal ultrasonography in their daily clinical practice.
The course emphasizes a thorough understanding of the normal anatomy as well as a basic knowledge of musculoskeletal pathology relevant for rheumatologists. Students will be able to assess treatment response via ultrasonography following completion of the course.
The Basic Course employs a unique teaching model featuring hands-on instruction conducted over two weekend sessions.
All relevant joints are covered. Each session focuses on different anatomy and techniques:
- Weekend 1: hand, wrist, ankle, feet
- Weekend 2: shoulder, elbow, hip, knee
Mandatory practice is assigned after each session. Students are required to perform a set of scans and upload them to our website. Our expert sonographers will review each scan and every student will receive personalized feedback.
Students will learn through classroom sessions, sessions in the anatomy lab, and practical sessions with patient volunteers.
