CRUS Basic Course

About the Basic Course

The Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society’s Basic Course allows students to obtain the practical knowledge necessary to use musculoskeletal ultrasonography in their daily clinical practice.

The course emphasizes a thorough understanding of the normal anatomy as well as a basic knowledge of musculoskeletal pathology relevant for rheumatologists. Students will be able to assess treatment response via ultrasonography following completion of the course.

Course Format

The Basic Course employs a unique teaching model featuring in-person instruction along with small groups of hands-on scanning conducted over two weekend sessions.

All relevant joints are covered. Each session focuses on different anatomy and techniques:

  • Weekend 1: hand, wrist, ankle, feet
  • Weekend 2: shoulder, elbow, hip, knee

Mandatory practice is assigned after each session. Students are required to perform a set of scans and upload them to our website. Our expert sonographers will review each scan and every student will receive personalized feedback.

Students will learn through in-person sessions, anatomy review, and Q&A sessions with MSK-US experts.

Students will have the opportunity to obtain a CRUS Level 1 Basic Certificate (new starting in 2023-2024!). The criteria and requirements for obtaining the certificate to be provided at the course.
